N-Channel MOSFET

  • Arrow points at gate
  • current flows from Drain to Source
  • turn on with positive Source-Gate voltage (gate more positive than source)
  • typically source is connected to ground, drain connected to load

P-Channel MOSFET

  • Arrow points away from gate
  • current flows from Source to Drain
  • turn on with negative Source-Gate voltage (gate more negative than source)

Other things to remember

  • Gate Threshold voltage is when MOSFET begins conducting
  • Typically we use enhancement MOSFETs (like the symbols shown above)
